SUMMARY:SUMC and TransitCenter Present: Decarbonizing Transportation - Beyond the EV\, a panel discussion
DESCRIPTION:We discuss why shifting to EVs is necessary but insufficient to confront the climate crisis and social\, economic\, and racial inequality.\nHow can decarbonization work for the rest of us? Shifting to electric vehicles (EVs) has become the focus of the global efforts to decarbonize transportation. This is necessary but not sufficient. How can we go beyond EVs and decarbonize with a just transition? How do we center buses\, trains\, bikes\, scooters\, ridehail\, and the rest of public and shared mobility? During NYC Climate Week\, SUMC and TransitCenter present “Decarbonizing Transportation: Beyond the EV\,” a panel to discuss options for a future of sustainable and inclusive transportation with and beyond EVs. \nSpeakers include:\nChris Van Eyken – TransitCenter\nClayton Lane – Nelson/Nygaard\nDominick Tribone – Lyft\nMidori Valdivia – New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority\nMelinda Hansen – Brightside\nBenjie de la Peña – SUMC \nJoin SUMC on Wednesday\, Sept. 20\, 2023\, at the TransitCenter offices on 1 Whitehall Street\, 17th Floor\, New York\, NY. SUMMARY:"Boring Tiny Tools for Transit\, a.k.a. Just Enough AI" Webinar
DESCRIPTION:AI doesn’t have to mean massive platforms or sweeping transformations. In the shared mobility world\, some of the most useful applications are much smaller\, and much more practical. \nIn this webinar\, we’ll explore how large language models can help automate repetitive tasks and smooth everyday workflows. We’ll look at real examples\, including tools like RideSheet.org and HopIn\, and talk about where AI actually delivers value (and where the hype gets ahead of reality). The focus: “boring tiny tools.” Instead of big\, top-down AI deployments\, we’ll discuss a more agile approach\, identifying specific pain points\, building small solutions quickly\, testing them in the real world\, and improving them with feedback. In other words: just enough AI to make transit and shared mobility work a little better. \nModerated by Benjie de la Peña. Panelists include: \nBoyd Reid\, Co-founder & CEO of Hop In Technologies and Chair of the Brampton Board of Trade. Boyd is also an advisor with the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance\, and alumnus of both the DMZ and Techstars. Boyd is driven by a passion to help people get access to opportunity whether it’s through transportation with Hop In or through his community involvement. \nKevin Chambers\, Founder of Full Path LLC. Since 2000\, Kevin has been helping public agencies and nonprofits ensure their technology investments serve their missions. Since 2018\, he’s been consulting as founder and principal of Full Path Transit Technology\, focusing on effective technology at the intersection of public transportation\, human services\, and healthcare. \nBianca Wylie\, Director of T&S Advisory. Bianca is a strategist that provides advice to organizations about using technology thoughtfully and intentionally. She’s worked in the private sector technology industry at both start-up and multinational scale\, in the public sector as a professional facilitator\, and in the non-profit sector as a public-interest technology advocate and policy expert.
