SUMMARY:Public/Private Urban Mobility Data Sharing: Evaluating Security and Privacy Solutions
DESCRIPTION:This Workshop is a result of the March 27\, and June 19 Workshops held by Agrion\, Perkins + Will\, and UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC):\nEvolving Urban Mobility—A New Regulatory Environment\nUrban Mobility Workshop: Public-Private Collaboration and Data Sharing\n\n\nPlanning agencies\, such as the SFMTA and the MTC\, need access to as much transportation data as possible to effectively plan\, develop\, and manage transportation routes and networks. Much of this data is in the hands of private companies (ridesharing programs\, corporate shuttles\, etc.)\, who owe their employees a great degree of privacy\, reliability\, and security. Resources are available that provide a mechanism for secure\, anonymized public data\, such as NREL’s Secure Transportation Data Project\, but no platform exists for securely archiving private transportation data.\n\nThis workshop will focus on the difficulties inherent in data sharing\, specifically in the transportation industry. Panelists will draw on different industries as case studies\, and propose potential solutions and insights into public/private data security and anonymity concerns.\n\n\nFor more information or to request to join the panel\, please contact: ryland.parry@agrion.org

SUMMARY:Urban Mobility Workshop: Public-Private Collaboration and Data Sharing
DESCRIPTION:This Workshop is a result of the March 27\, 2014 Workshop held by Agrion\, Perkins + Will\, and UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC):\n Evolving Urban Mobility—A New Regulatory Environment. \nUrban mobility experts from the public and private sectors collaboratively focused on three areas: The User\, The Public Agency’s Role\, and Integrating the Private Sector. After engaging in a breakout brainstorming session\, the following key challenges were identified: \n1. The need to create a “safe place” in which mobility pilot programs can be carried out. \n2. The need for greater data sharing to support understanding of innovative mobility options for planning and public policy purposes. \n3. Equity. The ability to access any form of innovative mobility through digital means needs to consider the fact that not all segments of our population have the hardware [phones\, etc.] or data plans\, which will support this. This needs to be addressed so as not to disenfranchise segments of our population. \n4. Current planning models do not have access to the data being generated by the private employer shuttles or the shared mobility environment\, for instance. Since these innovative modes represent an increasingly larger part of the transportation environment their data needs to be included and integrated into transportation and land use planning models. \n5. Safety and Liability. Innovative mobility options should provide the same level of safety and liability as is currently provided by public transit or other modes controlled by public agencies. \n6. How do we incentivize innovation and good behavior?
