SUMMARY:2014 Association for Commuter Transportation International Conference
DESCRIPTION:The REAL Value of Attending the ACT International Conference  \nSure\, technology enables you to stay in your office and watch a webcast\, or hang out on LinkedIn\, or even attend a virtual conference. But you are missing a vital ingredient in those venues: real human connections. \nOnce a year your peers and colleagues from around the world gather face-to-face at the ACT International Conference to share their challenges\, learn from successes\, and work together to address the very issues that keep you up at night. \nWhile an online discussion may be just a keystroke away in the search field of your computer\, the opportunity to meet real people and talk about local transportation policies or experiences with public/private partnerships and other issues is invaluable. \nTransportation professionals will learn how to manage change when not holding the reins through the words\, wisdom\, and humor of Doug Lipp\, the man who helped shape Disney University’s world-famous customer service training. \nWalk away from this keynote session inspired with the knowledge and know-how to manage change in new and positive ways even when you don’t have control of the outcome. \nTo find out more\, click here.

SUMMARY:Urban Mobility Workshop: Public-Private Collaboration and Data Sharing
DESCRIPTION:This Workshop is a result of the March 27\, 2014 Workshop held by Agrion\, Perkins + Will\, and UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC):\n Evolving Urban Mobility—A New Regulatory Environment. \nUrban mobility experts from the public and private sectors collaboratively focused on three areas: The User\, The Public Agency’s Role\, and Integrating the Private Sector. After engaging in a breakout brainstorming session\, the following key challenges were identified: \n1. The need to create a “safe place” in which mobility pilot programs can be carried out. \n2. The need for greater data sharing to support understanding of innovative mobility options for planning and public policy purposes. \n3. Equity. The ability to access any form of innovative mobility through digital means needs to consider the fact that not all segments of our population have the hardware [phones\, etc.] or data plans\, which will support this. This needs to be addressed so as not to disenfranchise segments of our population. \n4. Current planning models do not have access to the data being generated by the private employer shuttles or the shared mobility environment\, for instance. Since these innovative modes represent an increasingly larger part of the transportation environment their data needs to be included and integrated into transportation and land use planning models. \n5. Safety and Liability. Innovative mobility options should provide the same level of safety and liability as is currently provided by public transit or other modes controlled by public agencies. \n6. How do we incentivize innovation and good behavior?
