The Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) today officially released its new Shared-Use Mobility Reference Guide, a 44-page manual detailing foundational information, research and developments in bikesharing, carsharing, ridesourcing, microtransit and other forms of shared transportation.
“By creating the Shared-Use Mobility Reference Guide, SUMC hopes to provide government, business and community leaders with an introduction to shared-use mobility and help prepare them to address the rapid changes currently taking place in cities across the nation,” said SUMC Executive Director Sharon Feigon.
The Shared-Use Mobility Reference Guide includes:
- Recommended definitions for new shared modes of transportation
- Updates on the latest industry trends
- Analysis of shared-use mobility’s potential and impacts
- Evaluation of changing local government roles and policy choices
- Suggestions for way to better connect shared-use mobility with transit
- Recommendations for growing shared mobility services to serve all residents
As the industry continue to evolve, SUMC plans to update the guide with new information on the benefits of shared-use mobility, integration with transit, service gaps and opportunities in specific cities, best practices for ensuring equitable access to transportation and more.
Founded with some of the proceeds from the sale of Chicago’s IGO Carsharing, SUMC is a public-interest organization working to foster collaboration in shared-use mobility and help connect the growing industry with transit agencies, cities and communities across the nation. Through piloting programs, conducting new research and providing advice and expertise to cities and regions, SUMC hopes to extend the benefits of shared mobility for all.
